    Welcome to Inside the Clinic, an interactive video program where we walk you through a veterinary clinic, highlighting pertinent topics in veterinary medicine. In this session, we will chat about dentistry and highlight the team at Heart + Paw in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. Veterinary dentistry is truly a team effort to provide positive patient outcomes. This engaging talk will delve into effective communication strategies from the CSR , practice manager, veterinary technician, and veterinarian. In addition, this session will highlight shared responsibilities, and synchronized efforts to elevate your veterinary practice’s dental care, including preoperative planning, dental radiographic techniques, and appropriate use of dental equipment. The stages of periodontal disease will be shared and the knowledge that there is no such thing as “a routine dental cleaning.” Unleash the collective strength of your team as we navigate the intricacies of veterinary dentistry together, fostering a collaborative spirit for optimal patient oral health.     Dr. Jan Bellows received his undergraduate training at the University of Florida and doctorate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University in 1975. After completing a small animal internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, he returned to south Florida, where he still practices companion animal medicine surgery and dentistry at All Pets Dental in Weston. He is certified by the Board of Veterinary Practitioners (canine and feline) since 1986 and American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) since 1990 He was president of the AVDC from 2012 to 2014 and served 7 years as president of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry until January 2024. Dr Bellows’ veterinary dentistry accomplishments include authoring 5 dental texts including, The Practice of Veterinary Dentistry: A Team Effort (1999), Small Animal Dental Equipment, Materials, and Techniques (2005, second edition 2019), and Feline Dentistry (2010, second edition 2022). He is a frequent contributor to DVM Newsmagazine and a charter consultant of Veterinary Information Network’s dental board since 1993. He was also chosen as one of the dental experts to formulate the American Animal Hospital Association’s Small Animal Dental Guidelines published in 2005 and updated in 2013 and 2019.

He was recently awarded the 2023 VMX Speaker of the Year on Practice Management, the 2023 Bright Minds Veterinary Influencer of the Year and the 2023 Iowa State University’s Switzer Alumni Award.

    He has been featured in multiple publications including TV, radio and internet shows throughout the country sharing his expertise and passion on all things veterinary medicine.

    As an avid social media influencer for animal health care, he has almost 2 million followers on social media. He loves to engage with fellow pet parents and veterinary professionals across social media. Christman is an advocate of Pride VMC. He is also the proud dog dad to 4 dachshunds and believes no one should be deprived of the human-animal bond.
